Floral Policy

Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery recognizes the importance of memorialization of your loved ones through floral tributes. As such, we have established the following set of guidelines and recommendations in an effort to allow for a variety of memorialization options while maintaining the picturesque appearance of Crown Hill. Please contact us at (317) 925-3800 if you have questions regarding the policy.

Plantings

Live plants may only be placed in granite planters, at least 30 inches high, which are mounted on a cemetery approved base, or foundation. Flower poles, hanging baskets, standing flower baskets and all flower urns other than granite are not permitted.

Shrubs, trees, and ground cover cannot be brought into the cemetery unless authorized by the Cemetery Management as part of a Family Lot Landscape Plan. Crown Hill offers assistance with landscape planning for family estate lots only.

Vases

Vases may be placed in the ground or mounted on markers or monuments. Only one vase will be permitted on each full size burial space. Vases set in the ground must be flush with the ground when inverted, and will be placed at the center of the grave. Only one vase may be mounted on single size memorial markers, while no more than two vases may be mounted on double size markers or family monuments. Vases may not be mounted on flush markers. Also prohibited are memorial markers that have been cored for flush mounted bouquet holders. Crown Hill disclaims all responsibility for loss or damage to vases for causes beyond its reasonable control. This includes damage caused by the elements, thieves, and vandals.

Winter Decorations

Recommended winter decorations such as holly, evergreen, or artificial wreaths and grave blankets may be placed on graves beginning December 1st. These decorations may remain until the following February 22nd, after which all such decorations will be removed. Families planning to reuse these decorations should plan to remove them prior to February 22nd of each year.

Decorating Restrictions

The Cemetery Management reserves the right to regulate and restrict the method of decorating lots and graves. Ornamental and religious artifacts are prohibited. Eternal lights, votive candles, crosses, windmills, toys, statues, flags, flag poles, globes, bird feeders, flower poles, shells, cans, jugs, bottles, and all other ornamental objects will be removed if found on lots or graves. These items create the potential for injury to patrons and employees.

Small flags decorating graves may be placed for Memorial Day and Veterans Day holidays only. They will be removed within one week following these holidays, and at all other times.

Mausoleum Decorations

The Cemetery Management reserves the right to regulate the methods of decoration of crypts and niches in order to maintain a uniform appearance. Fresh cut, dried, or silk flowers are permitted in approved vases only. Plastic flowers and fresh Irises are not permitted. Only one vase, permanently mounted will be permitted per single, tandem, companion, or couch crypt front, or single or double niche front.

All floral tributes and their containers are solely the responsibility of, and at the risk of the owner. The Cemetery assumes no liability for decorations placed on graves, crypts, or niches.
