Crown Hill Cemetery’s 555 park-like acres are home to 130 species of trees, 25 miles of winding roads, 3 miles of brick and wrought iron fence, Gothic structures dating back to 1875, a bridge/underpass that serves as one of the city’s main thoroughfares, and the highest hill in Marion County with a magnificent view of the Indianapolis skyline.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, Crown Hill is a community treasure that serves a broad range of needs and stands as a monument to the memories of hundreds of famous Hoosiers and the thousands more who selected Crown Hill as their final resting place.
The Crown Hill Heritage Foundation was founded in 1984 to preserve the historic structures, the cultural heritage, and the great natural beauty of Crown Hill Cemetery. The foundation achieves its mission with a perpetual historic preservation program and shares the historic treasures, heritage, and beauty of the cemetery through its award-winning tour program and special events calendar.
The foundation is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, and donations to the foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. The foundation welcomes your contribution, multi-year pledge, or gift made through your will. We invite you to visit Ways to Give at www.crownhillhf.org to learn more.
Visit us for our award-winning guided walking tours! We offer both public and private group walking and driving tours.
Our public group walking tours are offered from Memorial Day through the first weekend in November, with most scheduled as sunset tours in the evening on the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of the month. Some are scheduled for Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Tour topics change weekly. Fees are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (55+), and $3 for school-age students 18 and under. No reservations for public tours are required. All tours will be held in the rain as long as it’s not severe.
Read more information and check our schedule of public guided tours.
Walking tours cover about one mile in 1.5 to 2 hours (depending upon the tour), which is a comfortable pace for most people. In addition to walking a mile, most tour participants will have the opportunity to walk up to the top of "the Crown," the highest hill in Indianapolis at 842.21 feet. From this incredible vantage point, visitors can see a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Indianapolis skyline.
Private group walking or driving guided tours can be scheduled for any date and time that a tour guide is available. The fee is the same per person rates as the public tours with a minimum fee of $50 per tour. Private group tours must be scheduled two weeks in advance. (Please note that coach bus tours are not available.)
