NEW DATE! “Final Finish Line” Unveiling and Dedication!
We were rained out and have a new date! Join us on Sunday, June 24 at 2 pm for the unveiling and dedication of the “Final Finish Line,” a row of bricks a yard wide installed in the road at the base hill by Indianapolis Motor Speedway founder Carl G. Fisher’s mausoleum and next to the beautiful Racing Legacy sign installed last year! The “Final Finish Line” will include bricks engraved with the names of the four Indianapolis Motor Speedway founders, Carl G. Fisher, James A. Allison, Frank W. Wheeler, and Arthur Newby.
The dedication event will include Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles, 42-year veteran of the IMS Radio Network Howdy Bell, and IMS Historian Donald Davidson. Remarks will also be made by Crown Hill President Keith Norwalk, Indiana Racing Memorial Association Co-founders Brian Hasler and Mark Eutsler, and Crown Hill Board Member Chris MacAllister. Come and hear the famous, “Back Home Again in Indiana” sung for the ceremony!
The event will also feature the oldest surviving official pace car, a 1915 Packard, from the personal collection of Alan Strong (top pic); the first winning car in the Marmon Wasp courtesy of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum; a vintage Miller; a replica of Wilbur Shaw’s winning Maserati; and a replica of Parnelli Jones’ winning 1963 car.
Following the unveiling, a 1915 Packard Pace car will ceremoniously cross the “finish line,” followed by a Maserati winning Indy car, and a Boyle Hauler. A Marmon Wasp, and possibly other famous cars will be on display for viewing. Some chairs will be available. Feel free to bring your own!
Guests will also be treated to refreshments and the opportunity to visit Crown Hill’s racing legends.
To locate the event site, follow the WHITE LINE painted on the road from either cemetery gate and you will see the event site on the east side of Section 13, close to President Harrison’s memorial. (See a Crown Hill map HERE.) Free parking is plentiful and the event is free.
