“HERITAGE” Sunset Walking Tour
Our most popular tour!
The “Heritage” public walking tour presents the history of Crown Hill Cemetery while visiting the graves of some of the many interesting people buried here, both the famous and not so famous, recent and long gone. A variety of monuments will be seen, including some of our most recognized statues, including that of the iconic Eastman Angel. (This is just one of the many interesting stops we’ll make on this popular tour. Click on this PDF “HERITAGE“ file for a list of other stops we may visit.)
Tour participants will also have an opportunity to enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view of the downtown Indianapolis skyline at sunset from the memorial of the famous Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley, high atop beautiful Crown Hill.
This tour captures highlights from many of our other tours and is interesting for all ages. Highly recommended!
This is a walking tour that will cover about one mile at a comfortable pace for most. You must enter Crown Hill’s 34th St. Gothic Gate entrance at 3400 Boulevard Place and meet your tour guide in front of the brick Waiting Station building on the right. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early and pay the guide in cash or by check. The route includes a few rolling hills and one steep hill that’s optional. Kids in strollers and very friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. (You must curb your dog.) Tours are rain or shine unless it’s a downpour or dangerous. Dress casually, wear comfortable shoes, and bring bottled water and insect repellant if desired. Restrooms are available prior to the beginning of the tour if you arrive early.
This tour will be repeated on July 15, August 19, and October 22.
