Robert D. "Bob" Murphy Robert D. "Bob" Murphy (90) passed away February 5, 2012 at Hoosier Village. He is survived by his brother Kerry (Carol) of Northampton MA, sons Mark (Sandy) of Annapolis, MD and Pete (Sally) of Indianapolis, grandson Bobby Smith of Eugene, OR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally, in 2010, and a daughter, Terry (Lou) Smith, in 2001. Born in Bordulac, ND, Bob graduated from North Dakota State College, served in the US Army in India during World War II, and received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of Michigan where he met Sally, his wife of 63 years. He worked in Indianapolis as a chemist and Laboratory Director at Lilly Industrial Coatings his entire professional career, retiring in 1984. He and Sally were avid amateur photographers, square dancers and taught Round Dancing for 20 years. They kept a specimen Hosta garden with over 300 varieties. He was a member of the American Kite Fliers Association, the Ragtime Society, and played trombone in the New Horizons Band for a number of years. Funeral InformationThere will be a memorial service on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the chapel at Hoosier Village Retirement Community, 5300 West 96th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
