Mr. John M. Atkinson

John M. Atkinson, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away at home surrounded by family on September 29, 2009. He was born April 6, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana to George & Delia Moran Atkinson.
He graduated from Broad Ripple High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed by A & P Grocery for 18 years and went on to become a food broker for Bocar Enterprises for 14 years and then started Atkinson’s Custom Woodshop where he designed and built custom furniture until he retired in 1991.
John was preceded in death by sons, Larry and Chris, sister, Pat Gallie and grandsons, Marty and Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly, daughter Lynne (Kevin) Corydon and sons, John (Jan), Jim (Sally), Joe (Debbie), George (LeAnn), Gary (Sue) and Danny; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters Vivian McConnell, Mary Sidor and many nieces and nephews.
John and Beverly loved traveling in their RV. They were active in the Good Sam Club, Hoosier Cruisers and the Journey Motor Home Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, Oct. 3rd at St. Thomas Aquinas Church located at 46th & Illinois Street. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 2nd 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery (34th Street and Boulevard Place entrance) and at the church two hours prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. George DeSilvester, Dr. Ronald Burwinkel, Dr. Joseph Lauer, Dr. Anne Ford, Dr. Nancy Baird, Dr. James Pike and St. Vincent Hospice for their dedicated care and compassion.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church in John Atkinson’s name
