Phyllis A. DemjenOctober 21, 1926 - April 15, 2012 In Loving Memory of
Phyllis A. Demjen Longtime Indianapolis resident, Phyllis A. Demjen, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2012, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 85. Phyllis was born to Hugh J. and Ilo G. (Clayton) Henderson in Lafayette, Indiana, on October 21, 1926. She graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School, where she enjoyed playing clarinet in the orchestra. Many happy childhood hours were spent with friends ice skating at Columbia Park and eating Frozen Custard. Phyllis married Purdue graduate, Frank J. Demjen in February 1949, and followed him to Indianapolis to begin her career as wife, mother, working woman and volunteer. She was a wonderful homemaker, avid gardener and expert seamstress. She loved arts and crafts of all forms and always had a project going. Later in life, Phyllis began creating hand-stitched quilts that gave her a great sense of joy along with a few Fair ribbons as well. Phyllis was a born bookkeeper and offered those services to various charitable organizations of which she was a member. Most notably, was the Phi Beta Psi philanthropic sorority, whose mission is that of raising money for cancer research. Phyllis was passionate about this organization and was a 50-year member (including 14 years in Martinsville, IN). A member of Northminster and St. Andrew Presbyterian Churches, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, son, David A. Demjen and brother, M. Dean Henderson. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Sherer, grandson, Will Sherer, nieces, Pam (Dennis) Young and Abbie(Mark) Eikenberry, sister-in-law, Mary Henderson and grand-niece, Amy Eikenberry. Funeral InformationCalling will be Friday, April 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Crown Hill Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel with funeral services on Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 at the same location.
