Mrs. Frieda Erni Nyhart

June, 30, 1937 - September, 02, 2008

Frieda Erni Nyhart 71, Indianapolis, peacefully passed away September 2, 2008. Her Husband, Eldon Howard Nyhart, precedes her in death. Frieda was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland and served in the Swiss diplomatic core in the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia, Africa. She was the Honorary Swiss Consul for Indianapolis. She was a co-founder of the Swiss Club of Central Indiana and the Indiana Swiss Foundation. She was active in the community, including service on the Board of Directors of the International Center of Indiana, and a member of the Clowes Hall Women’s Club, Contemporary Club, Lambs Club, Twirlers Club, Woodstock Country Club and a Second Century Society member of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She was a supporter of the Herron School of Art and of the Indianapolis Sister City program. She established Crans-Montana, Switzerland and Zionsville, Indiana as sister cities and created the high school student exchange program between the two communities. She is survived by children Eldon Howard Nyhart, Jr., Ph.D., Zionsville, Sallie Nyhart Peeler, Indianapolis, Maria Nyhart Dahlman, Short Hills, NJ, Malott White Nyhart, Cincinnati, OH, seven grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Evald (Ruth) Pfenninger-Erni of St. Gallen, Switzerland, Elizabeth Bouvard-Ernie of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and Veronique Wirtz-Ernie of Waltenschwil, Switzerland. Public visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2008, followed by services at 11:30 a.m. at the Crown Hill Funeral Home. Contributions can be made to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
