Mrs. Margie R. Kelly

Mother Margie R. Kelly was born June 29, 1935 in Tompkinsville, KY, the daughter of the late Nettie Kate and Jack Bailey. She was the second child of thirteen siblings and became the family matriarch after the passing of her parents. At the age 2 years old her family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Margie accepted Christ at the early age under the tutelage of J.H. Burris at the Church of the First Born Saints. Margie was an advent church worker and faithful member. Margie enjoyed cooking, playing the organ, and reading poems at church. Church was the main focus of Margie’s life, throughout her traveling she lived in other states; she always found a Church to attend and an organ to play. Margie was a trend setter; she loved to dress nice especially at Church. She was always color coordinated from head to toe. She was know everywhere by her hats, they were always unique and one of a kind.
Later in her life Margie married Pastor John L. Kelly of the Church of the New Born Saints, where she became First Lady. In their short time together they were able to travel and fellowship with other churches while spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Margie was an advent collector of antiques, she enjoyed going to estate sales and garage sales collecting them. This passion of thrift store shopping translated into Margie coming out of retirement and opening Margie’s Resale Shop.
Margie was a cheerful giver; you did not leave her presence without something. She loved her family and enjoyed having family gatherings where she would tell funny stories of the kids and grandkids. She loved to start a raucous with her family by displaying the items that she purchased and having them fight over them, this would make her laugh so hard.
Every time she went shopping, she thought of her family and she would pick something up for one of them. She could not wait to see the expression on their faces when she gave them something. Throughout her life she showered her family with money, clothes, jewelry, antiques, appliances, and cars for no special occasions, just to do it.
In her family she has been called by many names, Momma, Mother, Granny, Grandma Margie, and Poggie. Margie was a very loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved her family, church family, and friends.
Preceded by death hers sons A-lon English, Forrest English, and Sam English. Preceded in death her brothers John Douglass Bailey, and Master Thomas Bailey. Not sure where to put this.
Margie received her call from labor to reward on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the age of seventy-seven in the comfort of her home. She leaves to behind to cherish her memory, her husband, John Kelly, son, Paul Bailey (Phyllis), daughters, Libby English, Anna O’Dessa Austin. Her brother’s Terry Bailey, Robert Bailey, Fowler Bailey, Michael Bailey, Sisters Ann Freeman, Doris Rousell, Joyce Harvey, Florence Hendrick, Shirley Allen, and Charlene, Bailey, 11 grand-children, 15 great- grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral Information

Funeral Services will be Friday January 27, 2012 at Crown Hill Funeral Home Memorial Chapel 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will be two hours prior with Pastor Daniel Dinkins officiating.
