Mrs. Hazel V. Paige-Kelly
August 24, 1939 - May 06, 2017
In Loving Memory of Hazel V. Paige-Kelly
Hazel Virginia Paige was born to the late Lena Paige Newsome and late Eddie Newsome on August 24, 1939 in Charles City, Virginia where she accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.
Hazel attended and graduated from Ruthville High School at the age of sixteen, and furthered her education at Virginia Union College. Her degree led her to become a devoted teacher in IPS schools for over forty two years.
On December 18, 1963 Hazel was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Calvin Kelly, and later relocated with him to Indianapolis, IN where they built their life together and have been faithfully married for fifty four years. From that blessed union, her beloved son Christopher Scott Kelly was born.
Hazel was an active member of Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years and the First Lady for over 35 years. There, she began and organized The Good Samaritan Crusaders for Christ drill team, which competed and won two trophies from the National Baptist Convention of America. In addition to the drill team, she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and a member of the Sisterhood committee for over 30 years. Hazel did many wonderful things while at Good Samaritan, including writing and directing numerous Christian dramas such as, Highway to Heaven, which was loved and viewed throughout the city of Indianapolis.
Hazel then joined her new church family upon her husband’s retirement at Nu Corinthian Baptist Church, where she was greeted and loved with open arms.
Hazel was full of life and believed in enjoying it. She loved to travel, cook, and her favorite holiday was Christmas. Although she took pleasure in many wonderful activities and hobbies, nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her loved ones. Hazel was the Matriarch of her family and was special to all whom loved her.
Hazel leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: Husband Reverend Calvin Kelly, Son Christopher Scott Kelly (Alesha) , Stepson Calvin Kelly Jr. (Shon), Granddaughter Christian Aleya Kelly, Nephews: John Henry Bradley, Alfred Crump Jr. (Anniegail), and George Lewis III. Nieces: Rhonda Crump Williams (Kenneth), Kimberly Crump, Valerie Parker Simms, and Nichole Lewis (Tyson).
Hazel also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and devoted close friends.
Hazel V. Paige-Kelly passed away on May 6, 2017. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Nu Corinthian Baptist Church, 5935 W. 56th St., Indianapolis, IN 46254, with services beginning at 12:00 pm. Entombment to immediately follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
