Edna Doris Liljeblad, 88
passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St. Vincent’s Hospice.

Edna was born on August 8,1922 in Columbus, Ohio. She was a daughter of the late Edward Martin and Ruth Benson Liljeblad. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School in 1939, and attended post-graduate work at Shortridge for one year, then attended Butler University in 1940.

While at Shortridge, she was an honor student, and active in sports. She was a member of the True Blue Club, Home Economics Club, on the Girls Varsity Basketball team, and a reporter on the Echo Staff. Edna was a camp counselor and life guard at Dillwood Girl Scout Camp, and in 1938 received the highest Girl Scout Award, the Golden Eaglet Pin for her work in girl scouting.

She was last employed as a secretary at Eli Lilly for 38 years, retiring in 1986. In her earlier years she was employed by Levi Strauss & Co.

She has been a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church for the past 80 years, where she has helped with Sunday School activities, and played piano. Her favorite past time has been playing golf and participating in Bridge tournaments. Most of all, she has always been the center of family get-togethers, traveling from coast to coast.

She is preceeded in death by her brother, Edward B. Liljeblad, Daughter-in-law, Paulina H. Shearburn Liljeblad, Brother-in-law, Delbert Kline, and her lifetime friend, Anna Marie Schnieder.

She is survived by her sister, Lois R. Kline of Simi Valley, California, and five nieces, Sharon Detlof and her husband Bill; Gail Westerlund and her husband Richard both of Simi Valley, California; Pamela Timoshenko of Modesto, California; Cheryl Gale and her husband Mike of Revere, Pennsylvania; and Terese Hair of Riverbank, California; and five great nieces, one great nephew, and seven great, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. Family and friends may gather at Crown Hill Funeral Home at 10:45 am for formal procession to graveside service.
