Obituary: Mrs. Josephine E. Johnson

Mrs. Josephine E. Johnson

August 09, 1941 - July 14, 2010

JOSEPHINE ELIZABETH CHESTER was born August 9, 1941
in Indianapolis, Indiana to Edward and Ida Chester. Both parents and
a sister, Edwina Burns, preceded her in death. Josephine attended
the Indianapolis Public School System and graduated from Crispus
Attucks High School.
In 1963, Josephine was united in marriage to Paul Richard Johnson,
an Evansville, Indiana native. The two were introduced by good and
longtime friend, Dorothy Coleman while participating in a bowling
tournament. He was knocking down bowling pins and she knocked
him off his feet and it remained that way for 47 years. Together the
couple raised a son, Joseph Johnson.
JOSEPHINE possessed a deep devotion to her church, Greater
Commission Church of God, where she served for many years as
Secretary of the Business Office, performing numerous duties, but
never tiring.
Among Josephine’s other employers were the former Fort Benjamin
from where she retired, MDHP Diane Martin, and Lane Bryant, just
to name a few.
JOSEPHINE had an infectious laugh and was always pleasant, even
when her health began to fail. She always trusted that the Lord “had
the last say,” and she lived her life holding on to that belief and lived it
to the fullest.
JOSEPHINE went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14,
2010 after a long fought medical battle as her work on this earth had
been well done.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and faithful husband,
Paul Richard Johnson; one son, Joseph Johnson (Diane); two granddaughters,
Ebony Sinkfield and Nevach Nelson;one gradson Lashaun Randle; one great-granddaughter, Andrea Bobbitt; one brother, Edward (Sharon) Chester; one brotherin-law, Solomon (Dixie) Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Terri Seawood
of Columbus, South Carolina, Sharon Tounsel, and Wanda Green; and
a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends
