James E. Mitchell
90, Indianapolis, passed away January 14, 2012. James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bessie Mitchell.

James was a Navy veteran of WWII where he served on UDT #6 and #25. He served 33 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department, with the last 10 years as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention & Arson, retiring in August 1982. He also served as the Past President of the Fireman’s Club. He was also a member of both the Masonic and Shriner Brotherhoods.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Frank) Phillips and Diana (David) Windle; grandchildren, Holly Tate, J.R. (Natalie) Newkirk, Amanda (Paul) Ferguson, David Jacob Windle; and great-grandchildren, Aaron Ferguson, Colton Creel, David Newkirk, Schyla Ritchie, Carlie Tate, Daniel Ritchie, Makayla Ferguson, Presley Newkirk, and Gracie Tate.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18th at the Crown Hill Funeral Home from 4 – 8 pm. Funeral service will commence there on Thursday, January 19th at 10 am. Interment: Crown Hill Cemetery.
