John M. Sorensen, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4,
2017. He was born Sept. 28, 1924 in Paradise, Montana, to the late John M. and Clotie (Hill) Sorensen. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific.
John graduated from Grants Pass High School in Grants Pass, Oregon. After the war, he
attended Butler University where he was a Sigma Nu and became a lifelong fan of the Butler Bulldogs.
John and Margaret Ward were married July 25, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and had four children. They lived throughout Indiana including Indianapolis, Valparaiso, Monticello and Carmel.
John retired in 1985 after a career in banking. He was a member of Kiwanis and the American Legion. John enjoyed his family, lake life, bridge and following sports, especially Butler. He was proceeded in death by his wife Margaret Ward Sorensen in 1998 and Helen Perry Sorensen in 2010. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Duncan (husband, Phil), New Albany; son Erik J. Sorensen (wife, Laura) Zionsville; daughter Jill McGonigle (husband, David), Valparaiso; son J. Kurt Sorensen (wife, Chris) Noblesville. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren - Brad Duncan, Fishers; Emily Duncan, Indianapolis; Megan McGonigle, Madison, Wisconsin; Abby Eldridge, Redwood City, California; John E. Sorensen, Chicago, Illinois; David Mc Gonigle, Brooklyn, New York; Sarah Sorensen, Santa Barbara, California; Scott Sorensen, Crested Butte, Colorado, Trevor Sorensen, Crested Butte, Colorado, 5 great grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Payne, Athens, Georgia; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Simpkins, Carmel, Indiana.
John's life will be honored with a calling at 1:00 p.m. and a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18th, at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 west 38th Street, Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 155, 852 W Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032. Crown Hill Cemetery is handling arrangements. Share memories and condolences
