Mrs. Hazel Theresa Patterson Woodford Martin, daughter of Gertrude McDaniel Patterson and Norman Patterson, was born December 2, 1927 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was an only child.
Hazel received her primary and secondary education in North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.
Hazel moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1950 and united in Holy Matrimony to William Herman Woodford who preceded her in death. Hazel worked as a domestic laborer and server at the Blocks Tea Room. She eventually received formal training to become a respiratory therapist and worked for many years at Wishard Memorial Hospital (now Eskenazi) where she retired in 1985.
Everyone who knew Hazel knew she loved and labored for the Lord. Hazel professed her love for Christ and was baptized at the Barrington Area Church of Christ. She united in Holy Matrimony with another member of the Barrington family, Samuel Martin in 1979. At the time of her death she was a long time member of the Harding Street Church of Christ.
In her free time Hazel loved to volunteer at local shelters and was a longtime volunteer at the United Way. She received various awards and recognition for her tireless service to the community.
A loving mother, grandmother, and sister in Christ, Hazel had a warm smile, welcoming spirit and always had an encouraging word. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Hazel Theresa Martin departed this life September 1, 2019 at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband Samuel Martin; son Norman Anthony Woodford; grandson Antwon Woodford
