Carolyn Faye Patton, 83, passed away at her home on November 30, 2019, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Carolyn was born on September 11, 1936 in Decatur, Alabama to Burney and Gertrude (Blalock) Simmons. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert D. Patton; her children Annie Carol Pillow, Gloria Hall, Robert L. Patton (Denise), Charles J. Patton (Rebecca), Mark Anthony Patton (Debe), Donald O. Patton (Sheila); 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and several brothers and sisters in law. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, Patrick O'Neil Patton, and siblings; Annie May Warren, Sue Mosley, Eddis V. Robinson, Lillian Beatrice Martin, Burney Simmons, Jr., and Harold Simmons.
Carolyn spent her young life in Decatur, Alabama, and received her education there.
In 1953, she married Robert D. Patton. Later that year, the young family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised their children there. Carolyn joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church in the early 1960's; remaining a member her entire adult life. Her life was centered around her love of the Lord- and love of her family. She participated in the church choir- serving as a song lead. Her choir buddies included Marti Montgomery and Sister Hayes. Carolyn's children were under her spell when she was in the choir stand; she ruled their behavior with a mighty look.
Carolyn was a fan of high school and college basketball, and she played basketball herself when in school. Other favorite pastimes included league bowling and playing cards. Her card partner-in-crime was Juanita English. To keep them both honest; there was always her sister-in law, Jewel Simmons-Ball.
Carolyn's life also included many wonderful moments with her friends and beloved family. July 4th was one of her favorite holidays, and it was also her husband's birthday. Her other favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, and her family was blessed to have recently celebrated this Thanksgiving with her.
